DA*300/4: very slight movement in focusing ring.

This is the first time I am aware of this, with my DA*300/4:

When I gently push sideways or top-to-bottom/bottom-to-top on the focusing ring, I feel a very tiny amount of "movement".
Is this something I should be concerned with or is this "minimal" movement normal?

The lens is behaving as it should though with no particular loss of IQ/stability ... whatever.

Here is a visual explanation:

Mine did that too, I'm pretty sure it's normal.

Thank you all !!

I was starting to wonder if this was a cause for alarm.

I can now get to bed!

Cheers.

May not be cause for alarm, but it is definately "not" normal unless it is a QC issue - seeing that I have yet to see a QC complaint on a *300, this could be the first QC complaint about this lens. Think about it, a "weather sealed" lens that has abnormal play in the focus ring.

Sleep tight JP, I will seeing there is no play in the copy I just got...

Oh, BTW: You can call CRIS and a technician will tell you if this is a logged flaw or not...

Interesting. I was about to reply that as I recalled there was a little bit of play in the focus ring of the three different copies of the DA*300 I've owned over the past three years. Perhaps I was wrong abut the third copy

Ya, no play like he described I am handling it again and it is pretty tight. (Unless we are talking about different play)

not to steal your thread, but my 16-50 also wobble on the extension part. Have me worry too.

PENTAX SERVICE DEPARTMENT
250 North 54th Street
Chandler, AZ 85226
Telephone: (800) 877-0155

They are pretty good - it's worth a shot if it helps you feel better, they may just tell you it's normal (lol, now I am checking some other lenses)...

Thanks for the info.

I thought of calling Pentax Canada but they are usually useless to give ANY information via phone calls; they will also not let you talk to a technician - "just send the equipment" is the usual response.

It's not really a "wobble" that is on my DA*300/4 ... rather a very tiny amount of movement in the focusing barrel.

But it would be interesting to find out what yours really does and if this is problematic.
