Vivitar 600mm Solid Cat on K-5

Does anyone know if the Vivitar Series 1 600 f8 Solid Cat can be counted on the Pentax K-5 camera? Thanks.

Isn't that a t-mount mirror lens? If so you would just need a pentax t mount adapter to use it. I'm not sure what you mean by can it be counted?

I bet he meant mounted. Modern spell check is really obnoxious.

I would assume so as I had the 800mm that mounted fine.

I suspect he is asking because some of the old mirror lenses are so fat that they won't fit on some modern DSLRs with their flash overhang, even if the mount is correct...

Yes I did mean Mounted - I have a bad habit of not proofreading - sorry. I had read somewhere that the flash overhang on the K-5 may interfere with mounting some large lenses. I wanted to know if this might be the case with the Vivitar Series 1 Solid Cat 600mm f8 lens. It appears that the lens will work with the K-5 with a T adapter.

Does anyone have any experience wit this lens? Thanks for your replies.

Is there a rule about linking to other camera forums?

In any case, this might answer your question, although the camera pictured looks an older model:

I have owned it's big brother, a Vivitar Series 1 800mm f11 Solid Cat lens for several years. It did NOT fit on my older Pentax K-10D because of interference with the flash housing in the camera. Fortunately, it fits fine on my new Pentax K-5! I think the 600mm F8 will probably fit fine on your K-5

I have both the K-5 and K-7, and the Vivitar 600mm solid CAT fits with no problem and the lens reveals impressive results, though later mirror lens designs such as those from the camera companies and notably from Tamron are a tad sharper due to more state of the art design. I'm not sure how that other guy got the Solid CAT on a Pentax K10D without forcing the issue, but I wasn't willing to do that on the K10D I once had, and a prime reason why I got the K-7 and then K-5. Get yourself a proper T mount and be prepared to get a meter reading on just aperture priority, no other meter reading on any current Pentax DSLR. However, aperture priority is very effective and the compensation switch can still be utilized and is also very effictive. This is true of any mirror lens you put on a Pentax DSLR, even the Pentax 400-600mm mirror telephoto.
