Enable remote trigger on K5

I bought a real cheap remote trigger labeled "For Pentax" on ebay. However I was not able to get it to trigger my K5. I tried pointing it to the front and back of the camera but nothing happens when I press the button on the remote. Is there some function that I need to enable to make the K5 respond to the remote? Or maybe its just a bad remote?

You have to first tell the camera that you want to use a wireless remote. Look for the self-timer button on the back of the camera. It will give you a number of options including using an IR remote.
