Have a ist d that even with new batteries shows dead battery. Tried different brands all show dead, contacts clean. Any thoughts?

There have been a few reports of some problems with "battery depleted" message on the rear screen and an "empty" battery icon on the top LCD.

I don't know if this would apply to your ist d but it may be worth your while to read this:

If that doesn' t apply ... I am sure someone will come in and help.

What kind of new batteries? Alkalines certainly shouldn't be expected to work. And rechargeables - even when sod as "precharged" - need charging. Unless these are new Lithiums, I wouldnt expect the work right out of the box

I had the same problem on my *ist ds, it would show depleted batteries even when they were fully charged. I could take them out and put them into something else and they were perfect. I never did fix it, I eventually just bought a kx. But I didn't know about this place so hopefully someone can give you a better solution.

I had the same problem, I used recharable NiMh's and they all just stopped working, after trying everything I got myself some eneloop's and since then, as long as I use the eneloop's, its been fine...

I had my D do the same, to the point of randomly showing empty batteries mid-shooting even with fresh ones in. I wish I could remember how I cured it, all I know is that eventually it went back to normal — though it's been a while since I last used it so I don't know if it held up.

Actually, I think just switching to Lithiums did the trick. So try that and see if it comes back to life.

There was an interesting thread about batteries a while back. Might be worth a read.
