Largest SD card for K-x?

re

SanDisk 64GB Ultra SD Class 10 Extreme Speed SDXC

Are these the best/biggest and suitable for a K-x, just updated the firmware and about to travel to Cambodia etc and hoping to reduce the clutter.

not sure what the largest that a K-x can support, but personally, I'd rather have a couple of smaller cards, rather than one large one, because if something happens (gets corrupted or lost), then you lose everything rather than just some.

if you want pure size, there are 128GB cards out there available from lexar and sandisk. but much like the others, i'd much rather run several smaller cards than one big card

Make that +3.

The only exception might be when doing video and you need the space.

I don't go over 32GB since they are the best bang for the buck and use FAT32 instead of exFAT file system that many cameras have a problem with.

I use 8GB and 2 GB cards, mainly because that is what I have. I've filled a 2GB card in one day a few times, but have never been able to fill an 8GB yet. Probably couldn't in 2 days, the camera info screen says 8GB can hold 1111 shots when empty. That's a lot of pictures...I rarely take more than 300 in a day and I seem to shoot a lot more than most people.

I'm in agreement with the others though, I would prefer a few smaller cards to one large one. They don't take up much storage space and don't weigh much, I mean you're not carrying cases of shotgun shells here, and if anything happens you only lose part of your pictures, not all of them. I also have a carrying case about the size of an Android phone that holds up to 8 cards. That keeps them all in one place. It fits in a pocket and has a belt loop, not hard to find a place to carry it on a trip.

The K-x only supports SDXC cards (> 32GB) with firmware version 1.02 or higher. Version 1.03 improved SDXC support.

So, if your K-x is still at the original version 1.00 firmware, then it only accepts SD or SDHC cards and the maximum is 32GB. If you're at 1.02 or 1.03, then any SD card you can find should work. The theoretical max for SDXC is several Terabytes, but no one yet makes anything larger than (I think) 128GB.

Good answer to the original question! Another point is that many devices (including Pentax and Leica cameras) that originally did not support newer spec cards but upgraded by firmware have not been trouble-free with the newer cards. In general using newer technology specification cards than the camera was originally designed for has risks.
I prefer reliability to latest-and-largest.

I only use 32GB cards now. Especially when travelling I don't like having to keep track of too many cards, and shooting RAW I burn through a card every 5 to 7 days.

Try shooting RAW or video... you will fill those tiny cards quickly

yeah, especially if you're shooting a lot of fast paced events. portraits get around 200-500 per session for me, which is around one 16GB card. Events can fill up anywhere between one and four 16GB cards. No, I don't spray and pray, I just shoot a lot. Memory is cheap, use that to your advantage and shoot something as many times as it takes to get it right. With that being said, get the size card that works best for you. for what I shoot, 16gb is currently my ideal size per card.
