teleconverter for Pentax SMC DA* 55mm f/1.4

Would it be worth looking into a 2x teleconverter for this?

I dont have enough cash to get a fast zoom lens, so I thought If i can get this to go to 110 at 2.8 (if I did the math right) it may help get me by until I do have enough cashola.

As well, I have read some tc's give manual lenses auto focus ability, is that true?

I have a k200d

Thanks!!!

Wouldnt use more then 1.4x tc because of the lost of quality.

Also there are no 2x tc i believe with the needed contacts.
There are i believe two 1.4x tc one from tamron and one from kenko(?) but i dont know the precise name of those.

The AF adapter teleconverter is this one:
SMC Pentax-F 1.7x AF Adapter Reviews - Pentax K-mount Teleconverters and Adapters - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

All others won't AF with the DA* 55mm as it has a KAF3 mount, but Pentax claims that there's one in the works!

In addiiton of the previous posts, let me add two comments:

- a TC will degrade the IQ. Mating the DA*55mm with a TC is a pity IMHO.

= while you budget is limited, you could consider some tele prime lens. Some 2nd hand 90=100mm MF primes can be reolatively cheap and they can deliver good IQ. See the PF lens database.

Food for thoughts....

Well, whether is is good or bad to use the DA*55 together with a TC, I shall not say. I am not afraid of using quality TCs on quality primes, but I don't know the DA*55.

What I do know is that Anvh is right: the Kenko Pz-AF 1.5X Teleplus SHQ and the similar (identical?) Pz-AF 1.4X TC from Tamron will provide AF with the KAF3 mount lenses.

I have the Kenko and it works just fine - as far as autofocus is concerned in reasonable lightening conditions - on my DA 18-135mm lens with KAF3 mount. It has to be the Pz-AF type to work because it is the power-zoom contacts that are being used for the focusing mechanism.

On another note: This pair isn't a favorite combination of mine and the Kenko has skyrocketed in price over the last year, but that's another story......

EDIT: Quick and dirty test to prove my point:

This lttle doll - as shown first the complete frame as photographed with the DA 18-135mm and of course heavily downscaled - was shot in P-mode without and with the Kenko. Shown are 100% unedited crops - JPEG straight out of my K-5. Unfortunately, the focus point wasn't at the same spot in the two examples (it is lower down on the doll image without TC) but it illustrates my poin(s): AF works, and IQ degradation may not be that granted after all in each and every situation.
