K2000 Shutter Won't Work With Lens Attached

I have a K2000 that I have been using for 3 years. Today, in the midst of shooting, the shutter won't work while there is a lens attached. Is there an easy fix for this?

Are you saying it *does* work with no lens? Does it matter which lens? Does the display show a valid aperture and shutter speed? Is it a lens with an aperture ring? Is the aperture ring on "A" like it is supposed to be? Or, if no "A" position, do you have the "Using aperture ring" option set to "Permitted"?

The shutter will not work if either the DA L 18-55 or DA L 50-200 are locked in place. With either of them not locked, the shutter will work. The contacts are clean. It was working fine and then suddenly stopped. I replaced the batteries to determine if it was a battery issue, but no luck.

I also reset the camera to default settings as well. I should have added that no only will the shutter not work, but neither will the auto-focus.

Try setting the AF-MF switch to MF. That's the switch on the front of the camera, on the opposite side of the shutter button. Page 109 of the manual has an illustration.

The default settings include one that keeps the shutter from firing until the camera thinks it's focused. So, no AF means no shutter, unless something randomly appears to be in focus. The MF switch is one way to override this. If the shutter now fires, you have to figure out why you have no autofocus. I'm kind of drawing a blank on that one. Maybe debris on the AF sensors?

The shutter will not fire, even in MF mode with the image in focus.

Grasping at straws, do you have an IR remote? The camera can be set to focus when the remote is used. It sounds like a problem with the shutter button, and the remote would bypass that for trouble-shooting purposes anyway. (I can't explain why it would fire without a lens.)
