Why don't cam makers offer a TIFF setting in place of or in additon to RAW?

RAW is pure data, and your RAW programs don't editthe RAW file. A TIFF image is a RAW file as interpretated by the RAW converter and saved through TIFF compression. If the RAW is smaller than the TIFF (and it will be smaller than 16 bit TIFF), there really isn't a reason for the camera to take TIFF over RAW for storage. Neither is going to lose the image data upon saving, but one is smaller.

Yes, K-30 is DNG-only.

Think of TIFF as being just like JPEG but a ton larger and slightly better quality. RAW is totally and completely different. It's better for all purposes except sending to someone else - if you want them to see an image the same way you are seeing it, you need to send TIFF or JPEG or some other non-RAW format.
