Camera just died, what to do. . .

I need a bit of advice, I have a 200d and it is in need of some TLC. It is not writing to the SD card and it is acting really funny. Can anyone recommend a camera repair shop? I am fine to send it off, but if someone know's a shop in ME that would be great.

Thanks in advance

No idea. But have you cleaned the contacts of the camera and SD cards? Deoxit would be great, but WD40 works too (a point tip paint brush will do).

The K200D is quite an old camera. How long have you had it for and what's its' shutter actuation at?

It sounds like an electronic problem. If you have to replace the motherboard, it would probably be less expensive to buy another camera.

Thanks to everyone, I tried to read the shutter count but it didn't work. I have had the camera for six years I know it is old. My problem is that I insure my camera equipment, they will get me a new one. But I need to prove that it is cheaper to buy a new one than repair this one. Does anyone know of someone who could do an assessment like this in New England?

Pentax service will quote a repair price, but you must send the camera to them. Call Pentax service and ask about charges. Your insurance company should be willing to pay for the cost of the quote, ask the insurance agent about reimbursement before sending it in. If they balk about reimbursement, ask where you should take it.
The current Pentax camera that is a replacement for the K200D is the K-30, a very nice upgrade, IMHO.

You might be better off with an upgrade.

Amen to that, 6 years! Wow! I wish I could use my K-5 for up to 6 years, I know I will most surely upgrade after 3-4 years.

Right now is the best time to have one die. You can get a K-5 or K-30 for about the same money.
