K-X battery life

Does anything bad happen if one keeps shooting until the batteries go dead and the camera shut down?Camera year and half old with original firmware, using Eneloops. Can tell by the short charging times the batteries aren't nearly depleted but have always shut camera down when it shows the orange battery indicator.

No, I cannot imagine anything really problematic if the camera runs out of power. At most, your last shots in the buffer would be lost.

Actually in retrospect, they might not even be lost. The camera would automatically shut down once it determines voltage levels are too low. It won't literally run the battery out.

Many have reported that with their Eneloops they get hundreds of photos AFTER the orange indicator on the K-x appears.

You probably should consider upgrading your firmware. K-x original FW main bug was inaccurate battery level indicator. Camera could be shutting off prematurely believing batteries are near depletion.

Will start using batteries until they go dead.Have the firmware update downloaded to the computer but can't figure how to get it to the camera.
Thanks,

Follow the step by step instructions provided on Pentax website. I suggest using fresh lithium ions for the FW upgrade. It's easy although the last thing you want is disrupt the upgrade in the middle of the process due to insufficient battery . It can render the camera useless/paperweight.
