pentax p3 program mode

hey everyone, i was wondering, i just got a pentax p3 with a broken tamron adaptall lens with a pka adapter and a fungusy m42 f3.5 preset for 80 bucks. my question is, does the pentax p3 only fire at one set aperture in program mode? ive tried bright light dark light close focus far focus and it still seems to only fire at the minimum aperture. do i have a lemon for a body?

The P3 uses different aperture and shutter speed combinations at different brightness levels. The lens will be closed down in bright light to wide open in dim light. Maybe the broken Tamron lens is the problem. Also, the m42 lens even with an adapter only works in manual mode.

i just tested it with a pentax a 28 2.8 and several other lenses, same thing, fires at minimum aperture. i took the top off to figure out why the shutter knob was soo stiff and it has a really stiff detent. now i cant figure out how to put the rewind crank wire thingiemabobber back in :s
