K10d doesn't autofocus with Sigma HSM lenses

TheHSM motors of my Sigma 24-70 & Sigma 70-200 are not activated. The Sigma10-20 which uses the in the body built in focus motor works properly. It looks like your body is in MF-mode, so you can release the shutter button at eachmoment & after that I hear a noise in the body (I think that the built infocus motor is activated). Inoticed the problem after Iíve cleaned the sensor, unfortunely I havenítchecked if everything was OK therefore.
What Itried to solve the problem:
- checked& cleaned all contacts of lenses & body with isopropyl alcohol
- reinstalledfirmware version 1.31
- removedbattery
Does anyonerecognize this problem? Itís my second K10d who fails in 1 month (first crashesin an accident).
Thanks inadvance,
Jean-Marie

SDM is supposed to work with 1.30 forward but the powerzoom comments indicate limited compatibility and its the same power contacts in the mount that are used for HSM power, Have you tried cleaning the powerzoom/SDM contacts on the camera?

Yes. These are the 2 contacts into the body (lower right side), aren't they?

It are the two square contact inside the mount.

But you need to upgrade the firmware so that the camera uses those for the SDM or HSM in your case as well.

Just get the latest here

Are these contact not round instead of squared? The contacts are located inside the mount at the lower right side.
Firmware already was 1.31 and I have reÔnstalled the same version.
What I didn't try is reset to factory settings. Could this help?

As you look into the camera without a lens, the SDM/Powerzoom contacts are lower right - two of them - and they are gold and round.

I hate to ask the obvious, but are your lenses the SDM versions?

If your K10D is in MF-mode it should not activate HSM or SDM because you've set the camera to allow you to manually focus the lens. Change the focusing mode to AF-S and try it again.

Sorry, I don't know what SDM exactly means & if you can find this at the body of the lens.

I've bought both lenses in january or february 2010 (full discription: Sigma 24-70mm 1:2.8 DG HSM EX & Sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 II Macro HSM EX)

They work properly till last week.

Good hint: I even tried AF.S & AF.C mode and I start thinking that maybe that switch is defective.

The MF-indicator in the viewfinder is always ON, no matter what the position of the AF.S-AF.C-MF is. The switch works properly with my Sigma 10-20mm lens (no HSM).

This might sound obvious, but make sure the AF-MF switch on the lenses are set to AF. If the AF-MF switch on the lens is set to MF, the MF-indicator in the viewfinder will always be on, regardless of whether the switch on the body is in M, AF-S or AF-C.

AF-MF switch on the lens was set to AF. Have the problem with the 2 lenses (Sigma 24-70 & 70-200).

I am having the exact same issue with 2 of my Sigma lens but it's on my K20. They work perfectly fine of the K10 but will not AF on the 20. I've tried absolutely every single button combination known to man and still nothing. The lenses I am having issue with are Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM and Sigma 18-50mm F2.8-4.5 DC OS HSM. One thing I have discovered is that when I switch the Liveview option on, I can see and hear the HSM in the lens jumping around like mad. I've been looking for solutions but haven't had any luck to date.

Your Sigma HSM lenses need to have the chip re-flashed at a Sigma service facility. Some older Sigma lenses that haven't been re-coded cannot focus with Live View even with the K-5.
