K20d- It takes a long time to store the shot

I've noticed that my K20d seems to take several seconds (4 or 5) to store a basic simple .jpg or .dng.
I'm not doing bracketing or anything else fancy. I reset the camera and I've tired different cards and they are all slow on the K20d but not the k5. I hope the k20d isn't broken.

What brand/kind of SD card are you using? My K20 stores in ~1.5sec using Sandisk Extreme III/HD cards for "normal" exposures. Long exposures, 10+ sec, it makes a dark frame to subtract noise.

I was using mostly Sandisk Class 6. I tried others and they seemed slow as well. I have an extreme card. I'll try that. I was taking some long exposure shots yesterday.

Long exposure shots do take longer, they did with my K20D anyway. Try some more "typical" exposures and see if you have the same delay.

Yes, with long exposures there will be a DFS (dark frame substraction). It takes as long as the capture does, effectively doubling the time.

This multi sec storagetime is only with long exposures? If not, there is a problem.

The problem seems to be occurring even with short exposures. I understand what's happening with the long exposures and noise cancellation. I think the K20 is ill ..........................

The problem was with the Sandisk card. It was a blue colored 8GB with a "2" inside of a "C", possibly meaning Class 2?
I replaced it with a Sandisk Extreme Pro and the write speed was much faster, maybe about 1 second vs. 4 seconds with the other card.
Happy it's not the camera.

So whats with the DFS? I'm using a 4gb Class 2 Sandisk SDHC. I take it a 1 hour star shot will take 2 hours to save, yikes. I have high iso noise reduction turned off but i planned on using 100 or 200 iso. for long shutter speeds i only have noise reduction "auto" or "on". But since im using a remote, will the camera see that is longer than .3" shutter speed

It`s not possible to turn DFS off on the K20d. Besides that, class 2 is a bit slow, even for a K20.
