If that's what you really want, just get the K50/1.2 and learn how to use it:

PENTAX : Select a PENTAX interchangeable lens camera or a lens model

I believe one or more are for sale here on the Marketplace right now.

If you need to go longer, get the FA77; shorter, get the FA31; brilliant color: FA43.

If you want the easy way to get sharp, outstanding portraits, often with beautiful bokeh, and are willing to risk the occasional harsh background, then get the DA*55/1.4 and shoot it stopped down just a little, starting at f/1.6 or f/1.8 and higher.

PENTAX : Select a PENTAX interchangeable lens camera or a lens model

Really, you have no right to spend that much on a camera and not spend about the same or more on a lens or two - especially since you say you want good quality. If you can't afford to do that, then get a cheaper body (likely used) until you can. For example, a K200D, K-x, or K-r with a DA35/2.4 and DA50/1.8. Or much better yet, any one of those bodies with the DA*55. No one will know what camera you shot them with, but they'll notice how beautiful the images are from that lens, even if they're just a casual observer.

Well, then just get the 18-55 kit lens (or better yet the 18-135) with the camera if the bundle price is good (but maybe it's not as good as the price on Amazon right now): http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-K-30-Weather-Sealed-Black-Body/dp/B0082OJ33Q/re...rds=pentax+k30

Add an A50/1.7 right away. That will "get your feet wet." Then keep an eye out for an A100/2.8 or M100/2.8 (non-macro). These lenses are good enough that you may want to keep them (like I did) even when you get "better" lenses. Next get a DA35/2.4 and/or a lens like the A24/2.8, and maybe even an A or F 24-50/4 and F70-210/4-5.6 (or even the cheaper Takumar variant). None of these will break your budget, and they're all quite good. Don't just trust me, look at samples of the photos they produce.

Good choice. I haven't exactly played with one yet. But I did own the Plastic fantastic DA35 before and it's a superb lens for the price.

I think the best choice do portrate shooting is Sigma 85 1.4 but its price is very high, wish to have one. But now I use Sigma 50 f2.8 Macro non DG version. It's sharp enough, I like it even more then Pentax FA 50 1.4.
