K100D and bayonet 135mm lens issue

I recently purchased a used asahi bayonet 135mm lens to use with my k100d. the bayonet lens does not have any of the little dots/nubs where the lens and base meet up (which I assume allow the lens and camera to communicate). I knew going in that this was a manual lens, but when I turn the camera on, all I get is the AV-- flashing above the battery indicator. No ability to snap a photo. I can access the menu and such. Is this lens not compatible with the camera? I have a K2000 on the way to me but no idea if this model is compatible either.

Thanks in advance....

You should have a setting smewhere to allow manual shooting. Pentax leaves it disabled by default in their cameras - you'll want to enable this. I'm not sure where in the K100D menus its located, but with the K-x its the very last option under the settings.

3 steps:

1) In Custom Settings in the menu: set <FI with S lens used> to <Available> so the viewfinder focus indicator works.

2) In Custom Settings in the menu: set <using aperture ring> to <Permitted>. This is what was preventing the shutter from firing.

3) You can now manually set the focal length for SR purposes, either when you attach the lens, or in the menu (probably the Rec Mode menu).

I no longer have my K100D Super, so I looked this up in my Magic Lantern Guide, which I still have for the K100D (for some reason). The procedure should be similar on your K2000 as well.

I'm glad. I know it's frustrating when it doesn't work - I went through the same thing at one time.
