Hello all, I'm new here and I was hoping to get some level of advice on a strange problem I'm having with my k10d. Nothing technical or physical has changed on the camera and it has been using the most recent firmware for some time now but one day the top display and in viewfinder display information stopped working correctly. It still displays characters but it's a jumbled mess of hieroglyphs as far as I can tell.

The camera functions perfectly normal but it makes it difficult to use manual settings and it's impossible to know when the battery is drained.

As I said nothing has changed. Here are few things I've tried.

1. reset to factory defaults
2. re-flashed to the latest firmware
3. took the battery out for 12 + hours. (getting desperate)
4. Tried various lenses
5. cursed and ranted to my wife about it.

Hope I can get this worked out and get another year or two our of this camera. I truly love it and it's been a great purchase for me. I'd love to just use this set back as an excuse to get the K5 II but I don't think that is in the budget anytime soon.

It sounds like your top LCD is not making proper contact with the main board. Does the top LCD change if you change some settings on the camera, or is it stuck in only one pattern? If it is stuck, then I think it my be lost, but if it changes then it might not be getting the proper signal from the main board. You could try to open it up and see. There is a ribbon connector under the LCD to check. Here is a pic of a similar camera (K200D).
