Pentax - FA 50mm 1.4 is not working in AF mode

Hi,

I have been using Pentax - FA 50mm 1.4 lens with pentax k5. Last week I used a manual lens for short film shoot so I changed the aperture ring setting and AF/MF swtich near the lens.

But when I tried to use FA 50mm lens again by having the original settings , the lens' auto focus is not working in any of the modes.

Could someone please help me on this ?

Try cleaning the contacts on camera and lens.

Are you sure the lens aperture ring is on A?

Are you sure the focus mode on the k5 body is set to AF.S or AF.C and not on M?

I second that and would add: don't even try being embarrassed about it! We've all been there and anyone who says he hasn't is lying through his teeth I've still got some scars on my forehead from slapping it so much!

How about posting an image taken with the lens, with the EXIF fully intact, set the camera to AF.C so it will release the shutter without being in focus.

Not sure how this helps, but I tried mine on my K200d and if the lens isn't fully clicked on 'A', the top panel reads 'F---', but AF works fine. To me that suggests a connection issue, but I'm no expert!

I've had this happen with my single FA style lens (a Sigma). It was not dirty contacts. It took a few twists of the lens locked in the mount before it finally worked. My suspicion is the AF screwdrive was not properly aligning between the lens and the body. If there is even a slight misalignment, the body's male part of the drive doesn't fully extend into the lens.

Perzackerly. The A position ( sounds suggestive and AF are unrelated.

Hi All,

Thanks for everyone's support.. I got this working by again tried cleaning the contact and the locked the aperture ring properly. Now I am not getting F-- error but I get blurry images when an object in front is focused using 50mm f1.4 . I see the difference when I select the focus point at the corners. Could you please let me know if this is usual ?? otherwise I am a new user..

I see the electronic display in the view finder also blurry.....

Slide the diopter setting over the viewfinder to match your eyesight. It sits just under the rubber that surrounds the viewfinder (where you stick your eye), looks like a straight serrated piece of black plastic and slides left or right to adjust the diopter setting.
