Help, my af540fgz is stuck in trailer sync mode & no amount of switching will change it,anyone ever have this problem with this flash????

The closest I could come to that was the flash not recognizing the switch right away. If I use the slide switch on the back to go from trailing curtain to front curtain, the icon on the display shows trailing curtain sync until I do something else like press the shutter button. I thought you might have set the camera flash settings and those were overriding the flash settings, but it doesn't look like that happens.

Does it not function? Or are you simply looking for the icon image on the back of the flash to change?
The LCD does not necessarily change until the shutter/focus button is pressed.
Not sure if that is the case for trailing curtain sync. I think it is.

Oddly, my flash (more than a dozen years old) has just stopped working. So I cannot verify the behavior.
Guess its an excuse to get a new 540fgz-II, eh? :-(

I discovered that ... I have to turn off the camera and flash , and then turn them on simultaneously.

I would be able to change the curtain sync only within 5 seconds, after that I cannot make changes. Very weird.

Any suggestions??

Well, that is not normal.
When you press the button to focus, the LCD should change.
I dug out my old 360fgz and the LCD goes back to "normal" after a few seconds, but upon half-pressing the shutter button the LCD shows the trailing-curtain image. The 540fgz should behave the same.

Sadly, no firmware updates for the Pentax flashes.
No reason the camera should be causing that either as far as I know.

Which camera and which mode are you using? Av, Tv, M, etc...?

Thanks for the tip. Half pressing the shutter did change the LCD image. Appreciate your help.
Thought I needed to get another flash.
