As noted above, avoid putting a filter on the front of the lens. Exceptions would be if you really need a filter for a specific purpose. Good examples would be polarizer, neutral density, graduated ND, and such or when a filter provides protection from the elements (say salt spray). Using a good-quality multi-coated filter may help keep the reflections at bay. Flare or reflections from filters happen with film photography too and is not limited to digital.
