LazyPup, I have done same like you. I always use cd pen marker to write date on each 4AA set of battetery and keep it in plastic box.
One K-X that use pentax 18-55 kit is no problem, but another one K-x that use sigma 18-50 1:2.8 accept only new charge battery.
