Pentax 50-135 Warranty issue

So, I had the unpleasant experience of dropping a lens for the first time. The barrel of the thing had pretty much split in front and behind the zoom winder, and everything's pretty much exposed in those areas. What I'm wondering, is A) What is the standard warranty on these? I lost my warranty card shortly after I filled it out on the insurance end (The whole, I put in too safe a place trouble) and I can't remember how long it is. I'm pretty sure it was 12 months in which case I'm screwed but I just wanted to be sure, and even if it was still in warranty, would it cover an accident such as this.

On a slightly separate area though, what is the general experience of running through this process? I'm looking at filing my claim with PhotoGuard in the next day or two once I've gathered all the necessary resources together and I'm just wondering what kinds of fun I can expect from the insurance company.

The standard warranty in the US is 12 months:
Product Repair & Service - PENTAX Imaging USA

The warranty does not cover impact damage, so it wouldn't apply anyway.

I have no info about the insurance company, other than the general feeling that they will not cover you without a court order.

I think Leica lenses are the only ones that come with "Passport Protection" that covers damage from any source (for 3 years) standard. Of course their cheapest lens is $1,500 and some up to $10,000. I guess they can afford to replace a few at those prices.

I'm afraid you will be hard pressed to find anyone who will fix that under warranty. The warranty is intended to cover you against manufacturing defects, not user damage. Best bet is ask around and find the cheapest repair quote.
