Will this crack on the lens rim around the front element affect shooting?

Ouch!!

Do you think this crack on the rim which has the letters and brand name of the lens affect image in any way (like let light go in etc?)?

I wouldn't think so, but I'd like to here your opinions.

Thanks

Probably not, but you should check to see if the front element is loose or anything.

I should think it will be ok, but i would smear some silicone sealant over the holes to stop moisture getting in.

I would not pay any money for a lens in that condition, though it might be worth playing with if free. The main problem is that there could be and likely is internal damage that can effect functionality. When I first got started in photography as a teen, an older photographer friend told me that the first rule of buying used gear is to systematically reject anything that had evidence of ever being dropped.
