Can I use an old SMC PENTAX- M 1:1.7 50mm lense on a brand new K-01 or a K-5?

The lense came with an old Pentax KX that my grandfather bought many years ago. It's like the Pentax K1000 but this one has a timer.

I want to buy him a new Pentax, my grandfather owns many Pentax K mount lenses and I wonder if they can be used on the new K cameras.

regards.

First off, welcome to the forum.

Absolutely! All Pentax lenses, even the oldest ones with threaded mounts instead of the newer bayonet type mount may be used. Manually controlled lenses like the one you mention have to be used in manual mode however.

Many folks on the forum use the older manual lenses and love them.

I've moved your thread to the regular discussion forums. Here's how to use a manual lens on a Pentax DSLR:
