Cable release

Can i use a cannon/nikkon cable release or remote with my K7?

You can use the wired remote for certain Canons, the one with the 2.5mm jack on it.

The IR remote isn't compatible across brands though.

There are many third party remotes that work great and are very cheap (under $5), some are reviewed on the site.

If it is a simple electric switch, you can make it work with your IR capable Pentax camera. One of this winter's projects is to rig a micro switch so I can use any of the legacy mechanical release devices. If I find time, I might also rig a lightning detection trigger.
