Extended International Warranty Options

Apologies if this has already been answered but I tried searching the forums before posting....

I am currently based in the USA and have just purchased a K-5 (can't wait for it to arrive!)

The twist is: I will be leaving in February and moving to the UK and I understand that the basic (1 year) warranty can be made international by contacting Pentax.

Is it the same process for the extended warranty (additional 2 years) either purchased from B&H or Adorama? Can anyone confirm if this can be transferred to an International (2 year) Warranty?

I heard a rumour that the $20 extended warranties might actually be free if you contacted Pentax directly - any confirmation on this?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

We have been told in the past that the 2 year extended warranty does not transfer into international use. The 1 year can if you contact Pentax and ask for the documentation, that is free. There is no way Pentax Imaging is giving away the 2 year warranty for free, in fact they charge (if memory serves) $99 for the same warranty that B&H and Adorama sell for $19. If you have the $19 2year extended warranty you can ship the camera to CRIS in AZ for service during those years, even from the UK.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably go ahead and get the 2 year extension anyway and see if I need it

The reason I figured it may have the free 2 year extension was based on the K-7 which seemed to have a deal towards the end of its cycle:

I'll get hold of Pentax and see what I can wrangle
