K110d

Hi everyone.
I am new to the world of DSLR. I recently bought a K110D, but can't figure out how to use it. Its the memory card problem.
I've tried following the instructions on line, downloading their BIN file, but the file cannot be read by my computor, and the camera itself does not recognise it, it just says 'Invalid memory card. ANy advice?
All advice would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
B

I trust you've tried reformatting the card?

First check you need the new firmware. The latest is v 1.02.

To check version
Turn the power on while pressing the MENU button.
The Firmware version is displayed for about 5 seconds at the centre
of the LCD monitor.

If you do neeed to update;

Take an SD card and format it.

Download the file Kc1_v102w.exe. Save it to a folder on your desktop with a name like 'K110D'. You can call it anything to want, so long as you know what it is.

Open the folder and double click on the .exe file. It'll auto-extract into a 'readme' and a .bin file.

Copy the .bin file to the root of the formatted SD card.

Open and read the 'readme' file. Follow the instructions as follows;.

If the camera power is on, turn it off.

Insert the update SD card into the camera.

Make sure you have fully charged batteries installed.

Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button.

"NOW LOADING" appears in the LCD monitor, and will change to the "PROGRAM UPDATE".

At the bottom of the LCD monitor,

CURRENT VERSION 1.00/1.01
UPDATE VERSION 1.02

will be displayed.

Press the four-way controller to select "YES" and press the "OK" button.

"UPDATING" appears on the LCD monitor and updating starts.

Do not under any circumstances switch off the power before the
update is completed.

It will take approximately 90 seconds to complete update.

When update is completed, "COMPLETE" will be displayed at the left bottom of the LCD monitor. Turn the camera off.

Remove the update SD card from the camera.

To check the Firmware version in your camera, turn the camera on while pressing the MENU button.

Check that the version displayed in the LCD monitor is 1.02.

The camera automatically starts up after about 5 seconds.

(Caution)
When updating is finished, the update SD card still contains the Firmware file.

If you want to use this card to take pictures, delete the Firmware file first.

NB. Make sure you have fresh batteries in the camera before you start the update, and don't panic it nothing appears to be happening. Just leave it alone for a few minutes or more.

Hi, Max again. I bought a USB lead for the camera. The end that goes into the camera looks like it's exactly the right size, but doesn't seem to fit.
I'm unwilling to force it. Does the camera take a certain type of lead that's only made for it? Sorry, my knowledge of all things computer isn't great. Someone told me that I could use a card reader to do the job instead. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Does the camera require a special lead, as the one I bought for it is the same size on the business end, but won't fit into the camera port. I don't want to force it. I looked at buying a lead but the cheapest was around a tenner including delivery. Someone told me that I could use a card reader to do the job, Any thoughts. Thanks in advance......

What do you want the lead for? If it's to do with the firmware update STOP NOW!

To get the firmware onto an SD card, either (a) use a computer with an SD card slot - many laptops have them, or (b) buy a USB SD card reader - plenty around on line, or in store at Maplins, Jessops, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury.

Download the sofware as I've previously described then with the SD card in the reader, and the reader attached to your computer, copy the .bin file to the SD card, remove it from the card reader, put the card in your camera, etc.

Hi JohnX. I didn't manage to buy a lead anyway as they all appeared to look like the one I already have, which doesn't fit. Thanks for the card advice. I have a card reader so will go down this route instead. Thanks again....
