Pentax X-5 ISSUE

I was taking a photo last night in a pitch black room with my new X5. The flash was on, but when i pressed the shutter button, the camera made half a shutter sound,no image appeared on the screen, except the words BATTERIES DEPLETED, which at that time they were not, and the camera locked up. I had to take the batteries out, to reset it. I have spent today testing the camera and cannot reproduce the effect.Any ideas please.

X5 frose up

I acquired my X5 in November. While I was using it at Christmas the same thing happened. I also had to open the battery door to reset it.
I emailed Pentax at there service dept with no answer, good service.
Besides that problem I find it a very good camera, not that I am a pro. I have had in the past three SLR's all Cannon, FTB TLB and a EOS Rebel X S which I still have as an antique.
