DA Star Autofocus Temporary Refusal to Cooperate

Hey PF,

I bought a da 50-135 in November 2011 from BHphotovideo and within weeks its SDM failed. BHphoto were kind enough to swap it for another (NEW) lens and payed all postage fees so no complaints there.. However, the other day when I pulled out my Da 50-135 it wouldnt autofocus for the first 3-4 AF activations. After that initial refusal to autofocus it worked perfectly.

I have an extended warranty which was also purchased with the lens, I am now wondering if i should send it in for repair or checkup whilst under warranty? or perhaps I am just being pedantic should I hold onto it and see if it becomes more recurrent..
It hasnt failed me once in the field!

Any others experienced similar situations??

Cheers
Dvaughan

Think this is a case of SDM failure. I would say get it repaired.

Does the screw drive fix work good ? and is it permanent ? Last week I took it out consistently for about three days of continuous use and it has has worked perfectly since ! I won't have to send it in as of yet ... Tbh I'm thinking about selling due to not getting enough use! Think I prefer my primes.

Yep screw drive works perfectly and is a semi permanent change as in you need to change the firmware in the lens ... for me it was a no brainer as a day or so if no use would bring on the problem again

hey all, ive finally decided to try sagemaxx warranty people out.Da*50-135 lens, after a couple of days not in use, is very sluggish to begin focussing. Will report back on how they deal with the issue.
