K-5 will not turn on - Pentax Support advice

Hi all,
In case anyone finds this usefull...
I forgot my charger in my last trip so I could not charge my battery until a week after my K-5 show the "Battery depleted" message. 10 days after this, while using my camera, it suddenly turned itself off and no there was no way to turn in back on. No sounds, lights, nothing. Zap. (really scary).
Back home I charged the battery and it turned on all right.. However I did contact Pentax to see what they think about this:

Randall S: Thank you for contacting Pentax chat support Francisco, how may I help you?
Francisco Mora: Hi Randall
Francisco Mora: I own and use a Pentax K-5
Randall S: hello!
Francisco Mora: And about a week ago my battery ran out and I could not charge it until a week later
Francisco Mora: yesterday my K-5 suddenly shut it self off and would not turn on
Francisco Mora: today I charged my battery and it turned on all right
Francisco Mora: thing is, my battery had more than 50% charge when the K-5 stopped working.
Francisco Mora: is it possible my battery is damaged due to leaving it uncharged for a week?
Randall S: when the camera powered back up, did it show a full charge om the battery?
Randall S: it's unlikely that not charging it for a week would cause a problem in the battery.
Francisco Mora: yes
Francisco Mora: K5 shows "full battery"
Randall S: I would be more concerned there might be a problem in the camera. If this pattern repeats I would advise you to send in the camera with the battery to our shop to let them diagnose the issue.
Randall S: here's the procedure to send it in
Randall S: Remove the lens and memory card. Send the camera and battery with a note describing the problem.
If you purchased the camera new in the last 12 months include a copy of your sales receipt.
Our service department address is:

PENTAX Service Department
250 North 54th St.
Chandler, AZ 85226
Randall S: If your camera is out of warranty, or the repair is not covered under the warranty, we will examine your camera and supply you with a written estimate (this estimate is provided at no charge). Upon approval (and payment in full) of the estimate, we will proceed with the repair. Approvals may be given by phone with a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. If you decide against the repair estimate, your camera will be returned to you for a $12 shipping and handling charge.
Francisco Mora: Is there anything I can do to check this issue or should I send it right away?
Randall S: you should send it in.
Francisco Mora: Ok Randall, thanks for your help
Randall S: Thank you for contacting Pentax chat support Francisco, have a great day!

So, it seems the battery has nothing to do with this problem.. I do remeber I was playing with the button customization (trying to use AF button to enable autofocus and Half-shutter-press to lock exposure, but couldnīt find the last option) but donīt think this would have anything to do either..

I am in Argentina so sending the camera in and back (under warranty) will take not less than 2 months.. Any suggestion? wait till the problem repeats?

Cheers,
Francisco

If it does it again pop the battery and memory card out, hold the power button down for a bit, then put the battery and memory card back in and turn it on. I had that happen once and that's what I did. Now I've taken a few thousand pics since then with no issues.

Did you try to clean the contacts? This happened to me once and I had to clean the battery pins.

Ultra off-topic, but does Pentax USA only employ this Randall guy for customer/tech support?
