Old lens in manual mode.

I just got a new K-30 and I love it. The first day I got it I took the kit lens off and put my old manual Ricoh on it. I got it to work great in all modes. Now it will only work in auto mode.

Whats the trick to get these old lenes to work well with the camera. What settings do I need to have. Aperture ring is enable.

Here's the guide:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-lens-articles/110657-how-use-meter...k-x-k-7-a.html

Manual lenses can only be used in M mode (K-mount) or M mode and Av mode (M42 mount).

It makes a huge difference for my len. I can't have the ios on auto when using these old lenses. When the IOS in on manual it works better. Not all the option on the mode dial work. The only ones that work are manual, movie,AV, and Buld. TAV, TV, SV, and P do not work with my old lens.

I have a 1980s Ricoh manual 1:2 50mm and a vivitar 75-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 macro. It's the same with both these lenes.

In AV mode I understand, the lens is always wide open because there are no lens contacts. Set ISO to manual and shoot in Manual mode (M) and pess the green button so that the camera sets the shutter to match aperture and light for the ISO you have set. You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of the lens this way

Read the link Adam sent you - that way you'll get the most out of those old (but nice) manual lenses
