lost settingsfor bracketing

set bracketing on my K5 worked fine, then assigned bracketing to to FX raw button for ease of use, worked fine. Viewer showed bracking on and off with FX raw button push. Set these parameters in P mode. Settings were lost and only thing I did was remoce sd card. Tech support could not explain how sd removal could have caused loss. Suggested I reset( big help) and do it under user dial setting not P mode but did not know if this is the proper way to make settings. The very poor manual does not have a warning that bracketing or any other custom settings must be done in user mode so what is going on. thanks.

The manual does say "Make sure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the SD Memory Card" (page 55).
