K200D upgrade

Hi, this is my first foray into one of these forum sites . . . please be gentle with me!!
This seems to be a recurring theme, but I want to upgrade my Pentax K200D.
My choices of camera are K5II, K5IIs or the K30.
Having scrutinised many reviews on-line I have in my mind which one, but just need to be pushed in the right direction.
Hope one of you learned Pentaxians can help. Cheers.

Get the IIs because the claims of moire have been quashed like a rented stepchild.

Well, considering that both the K200D and K-30 are upper entry level cameras, I think the K-30 would be a natural choice for your upgrade. Take a look at the K-30 review to see how it differs from the K-5:

K-30 is the 'closest' upgrade to K200D but not really - lack of battery grip option on the K-30 make it not entirely a K200D replacement. of course, there are other features on the K-30 that doesn't exist at the time of K200D produce.
There is no replacement for K200D, which is possibly the best "entry level" camera Pentax offer.

I don't own any of these (except the K200), but I think a significant part of the decision will come down to the top LCD. I'm pretty sure I'd miss it on the K30. But not everyone would. I don't especially miss the 2nd control wheel that's missing from the K200, whereas other people find it's a big deal, for example.

The K200D is a nice camera with a good CCD sensor (which you can't get in a Pentax DSLR anymore). I kept mine but also have a K-5 and K-5 IIs now.

What lenses do you have? If you haven't invested significantly more than the cost of a K-30 in lenses than you should probably spend the money on that right now. However, if you need the High-ISO capability, then get a used K-x, K-r, or a K-30 and spend the rest on lenses.

The K-5 IIs is a nice camera, but if you don't already own at least a couple of lenses worth over ~US$600 each used (or over ~$300 if Manual Focus) than you will have trouble taking advantage of it. And honestly I think all my MF lenses pair as well or better with the K200D (in terms of the results I get).

The most natural step is to upgrade to a camera (semi pro) with more easy accessible options to control your photography like a K-5 with a grip. Which is what I did. Then it only is a choice between the most recent models or the classic K-5. If you narrow it down to that; the only remaining issue is if the benefits of the newer models justify the extra cost.

You can't go wrong with the K-30, but I sure do miss the top LCD. The K-30 is somewhat smaller, but build quality seems on par with the 200. I have not used a K-5 to compare.

Thank you all for your valued input. I have decided to go with my original thought and purchase the K5IIs. When I can afford one! Cheers.
