Hi all. I just got a K200D from Ebay and look forward to posting photos taken with it soon. I would like to know if I can use an sdhc card. I am currently using an SD card in my K100. When I looked for some online it seems like all the cards offered are SDHC. I see that there is a firmware update on the Pentax website, version 1.01. How do I know if my camera needs it? Its all kinda confusing to me. Thanks , Joe

If you hold down the MENU button when switching on the camera, the rear screen will show you the firmware version number. It's also attached to each photo you take, in the EXIF data, but not all software will show it.

The K200D should work with SDHC cards even with original firmware, but I'd want to use the update just in case. The description says it improves stability, and I'd worry that instability means "oops, lost that photo of a lifetime, sorry." You can download the firmware and a PDF of the manual from pentaximaging.com.

I think that the K200D supports SDHC out of the box. You shouldn't hesitate to upgrade your firmware, though. You can check your current version and shutter count by uploading a photo here:
