unco-operating Red in the photos

Can anyone please tell me what is going on with the red in my photos? I call myself a beginner as I haven't done any courses or anything when it comes to photography but thoroughly enjoy playing with my pentax k100D and the lenses. I have many pleasing photos from this camera but of late, it isn't giving me nice reds.

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Hard to know whether the image I'm looking at is the right colour or not, without seeing the original item! It looks like a bright red.

A few ideas to help diagnose the problem.

Can you load the image on a different computer? It's very possible that your monitor is not calibrated correctly.

If you are using a laptop, they are often very poor in terms of colour accuracy - Reds and Blues especially, as these are at each end of the spectrum so can get clipped.

Other thing to try is to take the photo OUTSIDE. It could be that the white balance is wrong due to internal lighting, - be it tungsten or fluorescent lighting. It's much easier to get colours right in daylight. Include something neutral grey in the photo. Does it look too red or too blue? Or is it OK and still a neutral grey?

Another thing I thought of: try setting the camera image tone to Neutral. If it's set to Bright, then it may be increasing the saturation too much for your taste. I think this is under the first MENU item on that camera, if it's the same as my K10d

I appreciate your reply caslan.

I looked thru all points raised. and it was the last one, the image tone. im thinking this has been tampered with recently as i have never had a problem before.
Thank you very much.

Much happier
