K5II Autofocus During Live View

I have been playing around with my new camera for a few weeks and one thing that is driving me crazy is the autofocus during live view. Sometimes it works fine but many times it zooms in and just spits out a totally unfocused image. I tend to take photos of lots of architectural details - often of wall surfaces and different spaces and it seems very confused by this. Do I have some setting wrong here?I am new here so excuse me if I am leaving out some important detail.

Thanks for your help,
Adj

Set the dial (that has the 'AF' button in the middle of it) to either SEL or the top.

The K-5 has an older live view AF system, but it should still be able to lock focus fine. Using brighter lenses helps, though.

Sorry for the delay - thanks so much. I will try this out. Maybe it was the low-light situations? I think the 18-24DA is a good lens though, no?

Is there a way to shut off the auto zoom in feature during live view, I find it slow and annoying... Can't find anything in the manual, just skimmed it though... Please let me know. Thank You!
