A tale of two cameras, K-r & MZ-7, and three lenses

Last week I bought, very cheaply, an MZ-7 body as a complement to my K-r so that I could have some fun with film and my FAJ wide zoom. However, I cannot get the MZ-7 to work properly - not very surprising I thought. But to my surprise my 18-200 Sigma works perfectly on the MZ-7 as well as on the K-r. However, my FAJ 18-35 and my FA 35-70 lenses are not recognised by the MZ-7 although they work perfectly (and very nicely) on my K-r. I have cleaned contacts and cameras and lenses, I have checked the position of the aperture ring, I have exercised the aperture ring, I have tried every position on the MZ-7 mode dial, I have changed the batteries, and in desperation I have kicked the cat! The MZ-7 seems to work fine with the Sigma and also with my M lenses. So what is going on?

Any advice would be most welcome - I cannot help feeling that I am being very dumb and stupid about something simple.

Hello,

Here you can find an interesting explanation of the compatibility of the boby/lenses:
Features and Operation of the Kf Mount
also:
Features and Operation of the Ka2 Mount
and
K-Mount Evolution, Features and Operation

Ant, Many thanks for the suggested reading. I have had an initial look and am not sure if this is where the answer will be found. However, I will read more carefully this evening. I do think that the problem lies somewhere in these electrical contacts on the mount - whether an incompatibility or some form of wear and tear I don't know.
Thanks again.

I haven't been able to solve the problem so have cut my losses and returned the camera to the seller. Thanks to those who have looked and commented.
