Lens ID Error

I decided to shoot on a Mountain trail today with my K-5. My lens of choice was the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 DC HSM. After uploading and reviewing the images, I noticed my Lens is being Identified as a lens I don't even own: Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way I can reset this in camera or in Lightroom?

It is due to third party lens makers back-engineering and re-use old ID's in some ways. My Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II comes out as a Nikon mount or as an older model and coincidentally my Sigma 150-500mm comes out as a Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II, often shot at 500mm. :P

It's a bit annoying yes, and especially when the EXIF says the wrong lens on flickr, pentaxforums etc so when you search for pics from the lens they don't show up. In Lightroom you can at least change the profile for Lens Correction.

Sigma seem to have problem with this i have a brand new 24-70 hsm f2.8 and it is reported by lightroom as being unknown lens. Sigma UK have told me there is a firmware upgrade for this lens that is described as a i.D.fix but they don't know what it does!!

since the lens is under warranty I could send it in but the cost of the insured post puts me off for a minor niggle fault.

It's a Sigma thing.

It would be great though, if it reported back a really exotic and expensive profile for you to post with your images, you'd then be the main man.

How exotic isn't shooting at 500mm with a 70-200mm lens? At least that is what exif tells me that I'm doing and exif is never wrong!

Sigma reuses the same numeric ID in several different lenses. The association between that numeric ID and a textual name is done by whatever software you use to view the images. Maybe there is an option to force that software to use a specific name (for example, the perl Image::ExifTool library has such an option).
