K10D shows F--

Hello everyone,

I own a K10D. I picked it up after a long time. It had the 50mm on it. When I turned it on, the top screen where you can see the F stop and the shutter speed, I noticed that I could not control the shutter speed and the aperture showed as F--. Can someone please help me?

Also, I am not a technical person at all, and I noticed that on my 50mm there are 2 rings, one at the rear end of the lens and one at the front. What do these rings do?

Welcome to the forum & DSLR photography!!
It is a prime lens, hope it is “M 50 mm f1.7” it is Manual focus & manual aperture lens.
Front one is focus ring and the rear one is aperture ring.

Assuming the 50mm is a A, F, or FA 50mm, it is possible that you are seeing F-- because the aperture ring (the ring at the rear of the lens) is set to a position other than "A". If that is the case, set the ring to the "A" position and also ensure that use of the aperture ring is permitted in the menu.

If that doesn't work, the lens contacts may need cleaning.

The front ring is the focus ring.
