Cable Switch CS-205 vs. Remote Control O-RC1

Hello Everyone,
I am planning a summer trip to Acadia and will be doing some night work. I want to get some captures of the Milkyway and Auroras if possible. I will have to do some timed exposures and wondered what people thought of these two products?
Thanks

Jeff

Depends on your camera, not all can use the cs-205, k-x for example. I have the cs-205 and it is well made but over priced unless you get a used one. The cable is a bit short which can be a plus or minus depending on your situation. I also have a similar vivitar, made about the same quality but the cable is maybe 12" longer. I don't have the O-RC1 but I do have the Remote 'F'. I prefer the cabled releases over the IR ones but that is just personal.

You should also look at intervalometers that act as wired remotes. I picked up one for not much more than what the CS-205 goes for new. Nice long cable and you can set it for delay, # of shots, length of shot and time between shoots.

Based on the OP's post, I am assuming he or she has a body with a wired release socket ...if the body is a K-x or K-r, see this DIY thread- https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/do-yourself/186110-make-wired-release-any...ir-camera.html

I just purchased a Neewer generic CS-205 compatible wired release for my K-30 for a bit over US$5. It works fine. For another US$4, I purchased 2.5mm-3.5mm stereo M-F and F-M adapters which allow me to use any cheap 3.5mm stereo headphone extension cable.

Just so you know, generic wired releases for the Canon Rebel T2i, XT, XTi, XSi, XS, T1i, EOS 550D/1000D/450D/400D/350D/300D, are also compatible wherever you would use the Pentax CS-205.

Thanks for the input guys. I was able to pick up a Canon Rebel release locally and got a cheap 2.5mm F to 2.5mm M 6' cable from Amazon. It appears to work fine. I look forward to working it out this summer!!
