Hi dmazimoto,

did you solve your problem? Did you try the AF micro adjustement?
I hope you know that K-30 has this great feature and able to memory 20 different lenses.

Hello. Sorry for not posting for a while. It seems the camera is front focused as further testing showed (tested 18-55 kit lens, fa 50 1.7, smc takumar 50 1.8, and a 77 2.4 limited). The pictures look great now, and I've since switched to RAW thanks to the awesome advice of everyone here. Will post some pics soon

The in camera focusing adjustment, it's not perfect but way better than before. A friend (who knows DLSR's a whole lot better than I do) did it for me. He has a Canon (which I was thinking about switching to) and said Pentax and Nikon are known for their focusing inconsistencies. Canons can get out of focus too, but not as often (in his experience). I did notice an improvement (huge) when I used a rented 70mm Limited so now I'm starting to see how big of a deal good glass is too

I take it for face value, he's a Canon guy so whatever, I draw my own conclusions. So far after downgrading to firmware 1.01 things seem to be better.
