Buy the K30 now or later?

It's on amazon for 460, body only. And I find that a pretty good deal. So should I wait it out and wait for it to drop in price... or should I buy it now?

You could save a few bucks if you wait, but think of all that time you could have been enjoying the camera! Can't put a price on that

You should just go for it. It's not going to drop by very much more, and it'll soon be gone as its successor is here.

I guess it depends whether you want to use it now or later.

Just go for it and enjoy it.

I have been watching the k-30 for a bit for a friend who is getting her first dslr. She wanted the blue with 18-135. The price has been stable and as we checked each day at numerous sellers the quantity on hand kept dropping. She ended up with the black one last night as the blue just would not drop to her budget.

She might have got the blue if she waited but they might have sold out as well. I think she got a great deal. As noted above I think we are close to the bottom, and it's a tossup whether the price goes down more or starts to go up as supplies dry up.

Wasn't that the common statement here about the K5 4-6 months ago? Yet it is still being sold for even lower costs.. (was $634 for body yesterday at buydig as example)

The point I'm making is we have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow. I think if you want the camera now, you should get it now. If you want to wait, while you (slightly) risk it not being there, you should wait.

If Pentax has anything positive right now in their corner, I think it is the lack of retaining price.. which can work in most people's favor if they have patience. Besides, if you don't need a brand new one, the used models will surely lower in price in the PF marketplace over time..

I went for it right after the announcement of the K-50. $200 difference between K-50 and K-30 now is certainly not worth it, and even if the K-50 is $100 or so less in the fall (when I was planning to buy the K-30 for its WR quality), I still think the K-30 is the better deal. PLUS... I ended up buying from B&H. They sell the K-30 black body for $499 and you get the 2% rewards deal and you can help out this site. PLUS... when you buy from B&H, you can get some lens bundle deals. $147 for the DA 35mm f2.4 (corrected: thanks to jatrax) is a very good price for a great lens. $117 for the DA 50mm f1.8 is an incredible price for another outstanding lens. $447 for the DA 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 or the D FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro were a bit much for me, but those are still considerable savings. For $763 I got the K-30 and DA 35 and DA 50. That's quite a lot of quality gear for that price...

It certainly is but don't you mean the f/2.4?

No problem, I will admit to an increase in heart rate that lasted only until reality sank in and I figured out the typo. Was already jumping for the link to order...
