K-x settings for file size

Hoping to get some help here on settings. Currently, we take about 20-25 pictures and the memory card is full (16 GB memory card). This is the first DSLR I've owned, don't know anyone else IRL who has a Pentax, and I've not been able to really use the camera because of this issue. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Save all your pictures on your computer, then go into your K-x's menu and select the format card option. You should get about 1000-2000 photos on a 16 gig card. Chance are there's currently other stuff on the card that's hogging the memory

You didn't happen to purchase your SD card on Ebay, did you? If Adam's suggestion of formatting the card didn't work then there is the possibility of your card might be fake, as Ebay is quite infested with fake memory products virtually indistinguishable from the original. I easily get 100+ (RAW+Jpeg) shots with my K-x on an 8GB card.

I will try this again, but I think I already formatted the card. The card was brand new (purchased from Best Buy, I think?). We definitely bought it in person rather than order online. I'll have to try it again. Thanks for the responses.

Since the K-x is the same mp as my K-r, you should fit ~780 (raw) shots on a 16 gig card. If jpeg then probably a few thousand as Adam suggested. If the card is formatted (do it in-camera as opposed to on the computer) then you have either a damaged card, or a fake. They're only a few dollars, anyway, so no big deal to simply pick up a new one.

I will do this. Thanks. How do I make sure that the camera is set to save the photos as JPEGS? I assume it's in one of the menus. I just want to make sure I have that setting saved correctly. Sorry for the total newb question.
