You can check that by using an AF adjustment chart.

I've compiled some AF adjustment hints, including some pointers to charts with their pros and cons.
Thank you!

So perhaps I don't need to adjust at all??? Just apply more sharpening in PP?
Sharpening won't fix out of focus.

Follow one of the reasonable suggestions for a target. The reasonable ones give the camera only one perfect place to focus, with something easy to lock onto, probably in daylight, with the camera on a tripod. Get the camera to focus with normal AF and take a shot. Then switch to live view and get the contrast detect AF to do the same thing. If those shots are consistently different, with phase-detect AF missing by about the same amount, you need to adjust.

Thank you, Dave for adding this comment. I frequently read statements that all manner of ill can be corrected in PP. We have a saying in my field (software development), "Garbage in...Garbage out". There are limits to what you can do if you have very little to work with.

Well depends. You need to adjust if your AF is wrong. If your AF is right and it still seems soft, then you need to sharpen, add clarity, add contrast, tricks like that.
