1965: Tele-Takumar 1:8/1000

Just picked up an absolute ripper of a lens with original wooden tripod , case , bag every thing intact and in good nick out of New York .
Now the tricky part , how to take a good shot using m42 - k adapter on a Pentax K 7 ?
Focal length only goes up to 800mm on the K7 , Does that affect focus ? Because it is used on digital should the focal length be 1500mm?
I can't seem to get a clear shot as yet , any advise would be welcome.

Picked up nice 15mm K lens as well , no auto aperture , same dilemma , don't seem to be able to get a sharp pic as yet.

Hi
My understanding is that the input focal length lets the camera adjust the Shake Reduction. You should just set that to the actual mm length of the lens, so 15 for the 15mm and ideally 1000 for the 1000mm. This input focal length will also appear in the exif data, as no direct communication between the lens and camera.
I'm fairly new to using these older lenses myself, but I would think the best option for the long lens would be to input 800 for exif purposes, but to actually shoot on a tripod with the SR off.
As far as the adaptor goes, I have a genuine Pentax, which allows infinity focus, but I believe some of the third party adapters do not. This may be one cause for the photos not being sharp?
Good luck, and I'm sure others will provide more detailed answers than I can.
Cheers
Dean

Wow! Congratulations!

I would set the focal length to 800 - only effects SR and you will probably have that turned off on a tripod anyway (unlikely to be hand holding this one!). Suggest using 2s timer or remote if you are not already - which will automatically turn off SR.

I see the minimum focus length is 30m - presumably your test subject is further away than this? Have you tried focusing with LV magnified yet?

Hope to see a review posted here soon: Tele-Takumar-Super-Multi-Coated-TAKUMAR-1000mm-F8 :-)

P.S. Just saw the weight - 5.5Kg!
