Manual Focus Focal Length Setting

I have a K-5 II and was wondering what happens to the camera (if anything) if the wrong focal length is assigned upon startup. For example, I have a Rokinon 85mm f1.4, if when I turn on the camera and it asks what length the lens is and I put anything other than 85mm as the length what will the results be? Like if I put 75mm rather than 85mm? Thanks!!

Nothing happens to the camera, but your image quality may suffer. If I forget to set it to 8mm for the Samyang/Rokinon fisheye, the pictures are noticeably softer. 75mm instead of 85mm may not make as much of a difference.

The in-body stabilization will either over or under correct for shaking, resulting in blurry images. Also, your exif will be wrong if you're trying to sort through photos by focal length

In addition to the SR not being quite right, the focal length recorded in the image EXIF information will not be correct.

Thanks folks! So as I understand it, the only thing the camera does with the information you provide it (regarding focal length) is adjust image stabilization. The EXIF will be incorrect but the image should not be affected.

Almost right. The image should not be affected, other than by the SR over/under-correcting for movements..
