smc Pentax DA 18-55 AL WR no AF

Hey guys,

I`m on vacation in Florida and took a few exposures last evening at the beach - some light rain, warm as usual. Afterwards I cleaned it with a wet paper to remove any salt from the surface.

This morning the view finder displayed the MF - logo and an aperture of f1.7 - way to fast for that lense.

I checked all the functions AF/MF switch, green mode nothing worked.

In conclusion the AF and ap. detection works fine with my other lenses - but not with my 18-55WR.
The ap control works over all finde - with MF you can get well exposed pictures - just the number is wrong.

Any ideas how to fix this problem for using the lense as usual for the rest of my vacations?

Greets

Going by the simplest possibility first, it sounds to me like the lens is not fully engaged in the mount. Try mounting it by holding in the lens release button, turning the lens all the way until it stops (don't force it, but do take it all the way until it stops turning on the mount), release the lens release button, and finally turning it slowly back until the lens locking pin clicks into place.

Make sure the camera and lens are dry. Take out the lens and clean the contacts with a dry cloth. Repeat on the body mount. Check for any water drops.
Mount it again. It must be humidity got into the lens or between contacts.

Both of your hints I tried before - and the contacts between camera and lense are dry - the camera also indicates an aperture - but the wrong one...

Do you have another AF lens to try? I think it might be the lens. You could try drying it with a hair drier to see if it helps

Ok, then you know the DA18-55 is the one with the fault. Try to dry it really well. Shake it, dry it some more...
