let me put it like this
Canon 6D + 24-105 L = 2000
Nikon D600 + 24-85 = 1800
Pentax K5ii + XXXX = 1100 + XXXX

I don't know, if it's up to me, I would get the canon/nikon combo, every time there's a sale on these FF camera it go down 50-100 bucks,

Don't want to wait, cough up another 100 for the body right now

refurb but lot of people have had good luck with it, it's a non issue.

K-30 plus da 18-135 plus da 70 f2.4 gives you a versatile wr lens and an excellent portrait lens just within your budget.

My comment has nothing to do with FF vs non-FF. Personally I feel DOF can easily be too shallow with APS-c so I don't see the need to make it thinner. And for studio portraits you will be shooting stopped down anyhow. Anyhow, maybe a 7D would fit the bill.

Don't get me wrong, I do happen to love my 18-135, use it 90% of the time and would easily recommend it for general purpose, but you're saying various things in your OP which seem to indicate needs are different from mine.

@Clockwork. Those are all dead links. and $1100 includes the 18-135. $1230 (all in) gets Camera, Lens, SD Card, and 4-year warranty. Also, quoting refurbished prices or a random side deal does not make it *The market average*. $2000 is still a lot out of my budget. Or at the very least is another lens. The income line from my work just isn't enough to warrant a FF just yet.

@Tanzer. Thanks for the input, but I'm just not a huge fan of Canon. In the long run, I'm secretly holding out for Pentax to go FF, or else I'm looking towards Nikon (unless Sony ups their game just a bit more).I've played with the K-5 for a while and ever since then it's just always been so intriguing to me. It's like a secret little ghost calling my name. Even so, a 7d is still a pretty decent chunk more expensive than what a Pentax will run for not a huge increase in features/performance. I'm also a sucker for build quality, and my work is almost always outdoor (ie: no studio work) so the WR and *built like a tank* side of Pentax is highly appealing for now. The 18-135 isn't going to be a go to lens for my work, but it's a good place to start. Tack on a 50, 70, or 85 in the next few months and I think I have a pretty decent *foot in the door* kit.

I hadn't considered the K-30 before, but I think it's something I should defiantly look into. That kind of savings is a pretty decent extra lens.

money save later on prime too, all the 50/85/135 is cheaper on nikon than it is on pentax.

but I get it that you really want the K-5 II, then you should get the K5 II.

I think you answered your own question. You won't go wrong with either the K-5II or K-30. And that 18-135 is a stellar lens, quite capable and WR. I don't shoot portraits so I don't have anything to offer there. One great feature of the K-30 is focus peaking (I don't know if the K-5II has this or not). Set it on a tripod with a manual focus prime and it makes focusing a breeze. Good luck with whatever you choose.
