K30 firmware v1.04...need help please!

Wondering if anyone can help me with this? I've read the instructions but am still having trouble. So...I've downloaded the update to my SD card using the cable from the camera to the computer. It appears to have downloaded...there is a file on the SD card.

The problem is that I can't seem to get the info from the card onto the camera? Ive gone into the menu...it shows the original version (1.0) but there is nothing to new to select/initiate?

I'm leaving for a trip to the UK and would really like to have this done before I go!!

Is there a .BIN file on your card (if not, extract/run what your downloaded)? It needs to be in the root, outside of any folder.

Have you strictly followed the steps outlined on this site?

RICOH IMAGING CANADA INC. | PENTAX Firmware Update Software for K-30

Step 8 is probably the one you are missing.

Make sure your battery is fully charged before updating too.

Thanks for your replies! Part of the problem is that my laptop, which has a built-in card reader, is away being repaired, and I cannot download anything onto my work computer. So...the file was downloaded to the SD card via the cord directly to the camera. I didn't "extract" it...not sure what that entails...just a double-click to open I hope????

Have brought an external hard drive to work this morning...would prefer to do it this was as it makes more sense to me. Hope it works???

You should be able to right click the file you downloaded and chose "extract" from the contextual menu. It would be better if the download was on the external hard drive first.

Well, the file has been copied to the external hard drive but I cannot extract it at work without an administrator password.

Maybe this is a sign from above that I should not be doing this upgrade...leaving on vacation to the UK in 2 hours and if something goes wrong then I will not have an operating camera. Perhaps I'll just leave it.

Thanks for the advice

You'll have to open the downloaded folder and copy just the .BIN file to the card
"Copy the above Firmware file fwdc215b.bin to the root directory in the SD card"

Not sure if this will help or confuse, but here goes. These are the steps I use to do firmware updates.

1. Download the firmware update and save to your desktop.
2. Double click the update folder to unzip the firmware file fwdc215b.bin.
3. Insert formatted SD card into card reader either the built in one or a USB reader.
4. Open my computer and double click the icon for the SD card. This should show a file listing for the SD card with DCIM as the top folder.
5. Drag and drop the fwdc215b.bin file so that it is underneath the DCIM folder.
6. The SD card is now ready to go in the camera to do the update, just follow the directions in the manual or download page, being sure the batteries are fully charged. (The K-30 will show a warning if the battery charge is not sufficient enough to do the update.

Regards
