Tamron adaptall 01A remove focus group?

My 01A has a nasty clump of fungus on the third element in teh focus group. Can't get at it from the front.

Inspecting under teh rubber there are three grub screws and access holes to another set of grub screws. However I think that the notched collar is probably the key...see pic. I wonder if this is removed, the focus end of the lens wil completely unscrew of the helicoid...

I 'd be grateful to hear from anyone who might have done this or have any insight.
