A 85mm Auto Aperture Problem

Just received an A 85mm. When I monnt to my K5IIs the auto aperture is not registering. I have tried both Av and M mode but can't change aperture with the camera. Is there a setting I need to change on the camera, or is there something more problematic going on?
Thanks

Did you set the camera to allow the use of the aperture? That has to be done on any lens that is not a digital lens, per se. Look in your manual. It is usually somewhere in the menu under Custom settings. On my K-x and K-30 it is the last one, like number 4 on the Custom menu options. I don't have a K5lls to look that up for you.

Being an A lens you don't need to change anything in the camera, it will work in all metering modes. The aperture ring on the lens must be on A. If the ring is on A and it is still showing F--, then the contacts are likely just dirty, clean them with some alcohol.

elliott is right. I don't know what I was thinking. He is right about the contacts too. Be careful if using alcohol that you put the alcohol on a lint free cloth, not directly on the contacts as there could be problems doing it that way.

Well, cleaned the contact with alcohol and it worked....for about 2 minutes. Tells me the problem is definitely the contact and fiddling with it got it working till I tilted the camera. My guess is something is loose, which probably means removing the back and checking. If that's what's required I'll get a pro to do it, but if anyone has another idea I'd love to hear it.

The springs and contacts don't last forever, I've cannibalized parts to restore functionality.
